I am a reporter on the Obituaries desk of The New York Times, and I am writing a book about the editor Robert Silvers and his world for FSG.
Previously, I wrote for The Economist, The Guardian, Dissent, and The New York Review of Books, where I was Silvers’s intern and then assistant from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, I moved to India, where I spent two and a half years working for Indian newspapers: The Telegraph of Calcutta and The Hindustan Times in Delhi. In 2023 and 2024, I won awards from the Silurians Press Club for my obituary writing and for my reporting on arts and culture.
This website features a selection of more than 500 articles I have written or contributed to for The New York Times since 2018, along with other past work. My interests include pugnacious thinkers, venerable restaurants, elderly raconteurs, and other improbable survivors.
